Mark BrownMark Brown, CBI - President & Founder
Mr. Brown is a Certified Business Intermediary (CBI) with over 28 years of business experience in a wide range of industries. Since founding NextStep in 1997, Mark has been assisting business owners in improving their businesses, preparing their businesses for sale and selling their businesses.

He developed the MyBizPath ™ System to:

  • Help accountants, business brokers and other business advisors provide sound advice to their clients at an affordable cost.
  • Help business owners improve the rewards they get out of their businesses.
  • Improve the efficiency of the sales process in order to reduce the cost of selling the business;

He has successfully negotiated transactions from as small as $19,000 to as large as $8 million in a multitude of industries.

Prior to founding NextStep, he was the Chief Financial Officer of Aavid Thermal Technologies, where he was a driving force on the team that took the company from near bankruptcy to profitability and financial health and a successful IPO in 1996. In his four-year tenure, the market value of the company grew from near zero to $350 million.

Prior to Aavid Thermal Technologies, he was a controller for ABA Industries, an $18 million manufacturing company. He started his career as a consultant in the consulting division of Arthur Andersen, which is now Accenture.

He holds a B.A. in Accounting and an M.B.A. with a concentration in Marketing from the University of South Florida.

He is a Board Member and CPE coordinator for the Triangle Chapter of the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants.

He is the President of the Cary Toastmasters Club.

He is on the Board of the Academy of Information Technology at Apex High School.

Sandy WatersSandy Waters -Vice President Sales

Mr. Waters has 30 years of sales and marketing experience with a wide range of technologies including computer and telecommunications companies.

Among the companies he has help include Digital Equipment Corporation, Nortel (Northern Telecom) and leading edge financial services companies, Dun & Bradstreet (NCSS division), and the Allied Corporation Bunker-Ramo division.

During his career, he has been responsible for or associated with the conceptualization, specification and development, marketing, support, and internationalization of more than 100 computer and technology related products and holds a few patents.

Scott RossScott Ross - Vice President Development

Mr. Ross has over 25 years of technology experience across multiple hardware platforms and software environments.

Beginning with his first position after graduating from college as a contracted scientific programmer to NASA developing image processing software,
up through more recent work building and delivering web-based solutions for libraries, he has demonstrated skills working with both proprietary and open-source environments.

Other relevant skills include life-cycle project management, systems administration, usability testing, and technology consultancy.
